Someone from the "disney_afternoon" group on LJ recently posted:

Rescue Ranger fandom history help
Can anyone help fix the Rescue Rangers article on Fan History? It currently looks like there is a slow moving edit war between two different factions in the fandom. As neither myself, nor the other moderators in the fandom are really familiar with the fandom, we don't have the knowledge to really step in and make it unbiased. We really need some one to edit the article, improve it, and remove any potential factional bias. If you could, we would very much appreciate it. Thanks!

Was wondering if anyone can help with this matter. Thanks if so! :)

I would nominate the prestigious talents of Sir Salazar Spumoni and the Midnight Man, Knights of the Archive! The Rangerillion and the Rangerwiki give overwhelming credence to their credentials at preserving fandom history.

Edit: Golly...some of this article has kinda tried to make us look bad, it seems. The 'kerfluffles' section, anyway.

Indeed; I just looked over the RW and found it very impressive thus far! They have my full blessings if they want the job. :)

I'm fully aware of what happened there, and so are the officials in the Ranger fandom. I just didn't want to make it a public issue, for I know who did all the edits. Behind this ominous IP address hides a more or less former Acorn Café member whose name I shall not mention here for now.

Can someone take care of the Kerfluffles section appropriately, please? I'm not sure if I shall just yank the new paragraph out.

Similar vandalism has been performed (and reverted to a certain degree AFAIK) on the Ranger Wiki, too.

If it isn't painfully obvious who is behind this part.....
And the same person probably written the first entry in Influential Stories as well....

Yes, there has been some vandalism at a few wikis, and we know who it is. But please, don't anyone try to take any kind of revenge. The best thing we can do right now is simply remove the vandalism in a calm and rational way, sticking to what's true and nothing more. There's only one person responsible, so it should be easy enough as a community to overwhelm any destructive edits that they make. Ducky at CnD Online has been aware of the problem for a while, too, and has been helping us out in trying to remove the vandalism, as well as talking to the one responsible.

Well... In honesty, the mentioned "kerfluffle" that no one likes to talk about nontheless did happen. Maybe the reasoning underlying these incidents could be clarified (the obvious being, Soda was never banned for his orientation, only for trying to constantly make it an issue of contention), but the problems we've had with this issue are part of the community's history for better or worse and I don't think trying to conceal what's done by striking all mention from all records and sweeping it under the rug is exactly an honest policy, either.

As far as that first influential story entry goes, I'm pretty sure that's fair and square for it to be there. Meghan Brunner is one of the most exceptionally good writers to work in the fandom so far. I think that bit about "If you can only read one piece of CDRR fanfiction, this is the one to read" should be struck out, since that's just someone's purely personal opinion, but I don't think there can be much doubt that her work deserves to be on that list.

I guess what I'm saying is that there could definately be some re-tuning at cetain points for impartiality (which is what's being asked for int the first place), but at the same time I think we'd all better be careful not to grab an excuse to turn that into a cover-up.

I completely agree. Most of the worst vandalism had already been corrected by the time this thread was started, the Kerfluffle section being an exception. I do think it's entirely valid to mention that subject in an honest history of the fandom, and how it affected the fan community. But as you said, the reasons given need to be corrected. That's just something we hadn't done yet.

And no, Yunkel. I don't think a talking to would be very effective.

Banning talk of history is almost as bad as banning talk of it completely... there is such a thing as revisionism and to sweep it all under the carpet and pretend it never happened is stupid and wrong. Though I agree that to correct any errors is something that should be done...

The fluid nature of these websites does make this sort of thing a problem from time to time, but as Fram's pointed out the problem's largely in hand now. It would be good to have an archived version of the final correct version of the information on hand and a monthly check to be sure that it's not been tampered with. That way, it could be fixed in a minute or two easily enough.

As for the rest of it, it's old news. Both Fram and I appreciate Ducky's help with getting things straightened out, and I'm sure our able historical team can get things set right or advise those who do.

See, and for that reason, I requested a rewrite. I could have returned the article into its previous state (read: kick that paragraph out entirely), but I didn't.

I heard she's great, but I'm not sure if she's so great that her works deserve being put ahead of Rhyme and Reason or Of Mice and Mayhem.

No problemo, Indy. Wikis usually have a built-in history, at least those running on MediaWiki have. Guess where I get the episode data from (which someone "deleted" from Wikipedia).
